I had a few extra minutes before church a couple weeks ago and thought I'd get a 'Sunday Best' shot. Instead, I got a lot of not-so-great poses. I thought I'd at least post my efforts and hopefully put a smile on your face!

Christmas

Christmas was lots of fun and Santa became a little more real this year! Our festivities were spread out a little bit since our families don't live near each other, but that seems to make the holidays last a little longer and who doesn't love that? Most of these pictures are from our time spent in St. George where Brett's Grandma and Grandpa live. All of his siblings and spouses were able to come for all or part of the week and it was so fun being with everyone, even if it was a little loud and chaotic at times (mostly due to the four children under 3)! Hope the new year brings many joys to each of you!

Believe it or not, this was one of the better pictures of the four cousins! Kent did a fantastic job of holding McCall's head so she didn't fall face forward (Kent has learned from experience, safety first!)

I had to take a picture of how Cade had arranged his nativity set.
Each figurine was almost always lined up, facing baby Jesus. Couldn't help but to find it cute.

Love this picture! McCall sat like this, staring at Santa, for about 2 minutes. He was very accommodating while I snapped picture after picture. Even Santa's helpers were chuckling!

One thing I forgot to pack - a hat for Cade. Grandma Larsen pulled through with this one.
Only a two year old can make it look adorable! He was pretty excited to see Santa, even though he has no idea that you're supposed to tell him what you'd like for Christmas. He must think Santa is for picture-taking only!

Yes, it's been a while. My apologies. We've just been living everyday life,

and here's some glimpses of it!

Brett had to part with his first love...his Civic. It was a great car for us, but we recently added a Honda Odyssey to our family (or rather, to transport our family) and we just didn't need three cars!

I attempted home made noodles for the first time, and Cade wanted to help.

We went "real" trick-or-treating this year and handed out candy for the first time! It was quite fun for me (decorating the porch and playing Halloween music, dressing up the family, etc.) and I'm already looking forward to next year and creating our own traditions!

Trip to Utah Part II

(Sorry this has been long in coming, apparently 2 kids is twice as much work, hence, taking twice as much of your time. Hmm.)

So our second half of our trip found us at the Zoo which Cade has been to before but was too young to even stay awake the whole time we were there! He loved it this time and has talked about it ever since!

It took some persuasion to get him on the horse, but he liked it once he was up there.

Yesterday I had the nursery manual sitting on the couch. Cade started looking through it and pointing out things in pictures that he was familiar with. One of them was of the Prophet Joseph Smith. Cade got excited and said, "Das Jofus Sniff!" Then followed his comment with a sniffle sound. How could I not laugh at that?

Last week while eating his lunch, Cade turned to me and said, "Don't get mad, get Grad!" (He pronounces his "l" sounds with the "r" sound.)

Last night at dinner, Cade asked for more vegetables. Surprised, because he still had carrots on his plate, yet pleased, I dished him some corn. He looked down at his bowl then said, "No, that." pointing to a bottle of Hidden Valley Ranch on the table. I quickly realized that earlier that day he had seen their commercial where they state, "Makes vegetables delectable!." Who wouldn't take Ranch IN PLACE of vegetables?

(I promise we don't spend all day watching TV, he just soaks everything up like a sponge!)

Trip to Utah

A few weeks ago we headed to Utah for the 13 1/2 hour drive (you can make it in 10 without kids)! We had lots of fun and took lots of pictures, so we'll post half now and half later (nap times are only so long)! Thanks to everyone who made our trip so fun!

We gave Cade a Christmas present a little early so he could wear it on the four-wheeler. He loved it so much, that he wore it for lots of other activities, like coloring. Safety first!

Summer is drawing near the end, and that means Lentil Festival. A few more, and it will officially be a tradition for our little family! Cade was a little more into it this year, especially getting candy at the parade! McCall on the other hand, well, she slept for most of it!

Celebrating Freedom

We celebrated the 4th of July very country-like this year. Pretty laid back and slow paced. We started the day off at the famous Johnson Parade! It's held on a narrow little street in the town of Johnson (well, it's more like a settlement really), with no curb and gutter, let alone a sidewalk. The parade goes up the street, then turns around and comes back down (while the first half is still making it's way up), and it lasted a total of about 30 minutes this year. It's actually draws quite a crowd and I think it will become a tradition in our family!

Aside from all the festivities, we truly are grateful for this free land in which we live, and the many men and women who have fought to make and keep it that way. "Oh say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?"

We ventured out with Cade to see how he liked fireworks. He liked the ones way off in the distance, but was not a fan of them up close. Once they started he buried his head into the blanket and did not want to look up. He never seemed bothered by the sound and ever since he's repeatedly told us, "BANG! BANG! A fireworks says!

So a few months before McCall was born, I started a few projects. "I" soon turned to "we" since I couldn't use certain types of paint. Thanks to Brett's help, a few good finds on furniture, and a lot of paint and hours of work, we got some finished products that we're pretty pleased with!

On The Mend

We had our first emergency room visit a couple weeks ago, and I wouldn't recommend it! Although it could have been worse, and more serious, it still was a little frightening and tugged at my heart strings. Cade got a little too close, a little too quick, to Grandma and Grandpa's dog, and he snapped at his lip. After we got Cade into the car and calmed down a little bit, with a paper towel and bag of frozen peas on his lip, he was quite the trooper. The nurses kept saying how good he was and grandpa's iPod was a life saver. As long as he had "Angry Birds" to play, he was just fine. Brett was on a trip, but thank heavens for phones. We decided to have him put under anesthesia to receive the stitches and bless his heart, he handled everything like a champ. (Sorry the pics are a little grainy, they're from my phone.)

This is while we were waiting for the anesthesia wear off. He looked around the room for a little while, then his lips slowly formed the shape of an "O." We celebrated our 6th anniversary this last month - wow! 6 years! It's flown by, and to commemorate, we flew to McCall, ID for the weekend! It was so nice to spend some one-on-one time together and visit the little town that we have driven through so many times, yet never get to enjoy. We stayed at the Shore Lodge, which we highly recommend (if it's the off-season so that it's not so pricey)! We look forward to many more years and adventures together!

Once a week Cade gets to hear, "Let's go put your swimming suit on!" And with a big grin on his face, he says, "Wimmin' soup! Wif Dad!" So far, Brett's been home for every lesson (which is great for me since I don't love being in a swimsuit, especially with a pregnant belly)! As you can see by Cade's smile, he just loves his lessons and the water even more. Hopefully he'll be a much better swimmer than Brett or me!

Happy Easter everyone! Cade had his fill of Easter Egg Hunts this year, and by the last one, he was starting to get the hang of it! Brett and I had fun attending all the events as well, and hope we have the energy to keep up the tradition!

Too Fast

As we were coming out of swimming lessons, Cade was "running fast" as he likes to tell us, and tripped. As you can see, he got his first little knee scrape. He was pretty brave - no tears, he just kept saying, "Hurt. Hurt." We only live a couple blocks from the pool, so after driving home and taking a bath...

...he was as happy as the sticker on his band-aid!

(He gets a round, character band-aid on his leg after getting shots at the doctor's office, and calls them stickers. I didn't have any "fun" band-aids so he got an actual sticker on top. He wanted his pants rolled up for most of the day so he could check it. I think he'll be a pretty tough guy!)

Cade is becoming quite skilled at making baskets in his 5 FOOT HOOP! He wanted it higher, but it only goes to 6 feet, which we thought would buy us some time as he grew up! Second, Second Birthday

We celebrated Cade's second, second birthday with Grandma and Grandpa Poll! I attempted another fondant cake, but may have been a little too ambitious! It turned out alright, if you didn't look too close! Even though there were a few mishaps with the cake, Cade didn't even notice or care. All he noticed was "Mitkey Mouse" in the center of his cake! After being concerned for a moment that he would be stuck in there forever, he decided it was ok, and talked about it for two days. "Mitkey Mouse....dake. Mouse in dake!" He's also fond of the song "Happy Birthday" and has no reservations about opening brightly wrapped packages! Thank you to everyone who made his birthday special, both near and far!

(If anyone needs brightly colored fondant, I have lots left over that you're welcome to have!)

I was just in the laundry room with Cade, taking a load of sheets and towels out of the dryer. I said, "Ok, lets go put the sheets on the bed!" He excitedly ran with me to the stairs, repeating what I had said all the way up (or so I thought). When we reached the top, he quickly ran over to his animal puzzle that he had been playing with earlier, picked up one of the pieces, and ran into our room. As I walked in and put the laundry basket on the floor, he placed the puzzle piece on the bed, and with a big smile on his face said, "Sheep on bed!" Sure enough, the puzzle piece was a sheep. Never underestimate the mind, and willingness to help, of a two-year old!

First Second Birthday

Yes, we celebrated Cade's first, second birthday on his birthday, then we'll have another party when grandma and grandpa Poll come (That will be titled "Second, Second Birthday)! Can we say spoiled? Brett and I both got sick two days before the celebration, so my plans of a Mickey Mouse cake had to be put on hold since the fondant has to be made the day before. He didn't seem to mind a plain old cupcake, in fact, he only ate the frosting anyway!

This year Brett and I really wanted to give our parents something special for Christmas. We put a lot of thought, time, and effort into coming up with something that they could really enjoy for more than just a few months into the new year. We could hardly wait for them to open their presents, and were tempted several times to give it to them early, but held out until we were all together as a family (each celebrated on different days, but only four days apart). We like the present so much, that we wanted to share it with all of you, but you'll have to wait just a little longer! Stay tuned for a picture of our gift that keeps on giving!

Good Books

I haven't been a very avid reader, but I do know the value of good books for both young and old. I LOVED "The Boxcar Children" series, and even re-read several of them in college (they're about a second grade reading level)! Gratefully, Cade has already found a love for books and has several favorites. Among them are Dr. Seuss' "Mr. Brown Can Moo," "ABC," and a book Brett and I bought for him in Hawaii, "There's a Monster in my Opu!" Brett's favorite was "Go Dog, Go!" and it's climbing Cade's list as well.

Freshly Fallen Snow

We had our first big snowstorm of the year and Cade didn't mind one bit! We got at least 1 foot of snow and Brett has already shoveled 4 times in a 24 hour period! There's something magical about a glistening white blanket that covers the world outside your door. It brings back childhood memories of playing for hours in the snow, and hoping that Christmas morning would be slightly dusted in white. It was delightful capturing Cade's first taste of snow!

Ever since we started driving at age 16, neither of us had a garage to park our cars in... until last year! How wonderful it is when you can have some shade from the hot summer sun, escape the rain and wind, and pull out without having to scrape snow and ice off the whole perimeter of the car! Our family has been very fortunate to have had very little health problems. So far, no broken bones or stitches for Cade (although we don't expect that to last forever!), and neither of us have had emergency room visits for anything either! With so many diseases out there, we count ourselves blessed to have been free from any, thus far. We hope that no matter what may come our way, that we will remember the times we enjoyed good health.

Grandma and Grandpa Poll came up a couple weekends ago, and we went to another pumpkin patch at "The Red Barn!" It was a beautiful day and the fall colors were gorgeous! We came away with a few great "finds," some warm apple cider, and lots of fun pictures!

The first week in October, we went to the university's orchards to get pumpkins! We found out later that they were cheaper at the grocery store, but as Grandma Udy said, "25 cents for pumpkins, or 45 cents for memories!" Well, I guess that's cheap for memories, so we'll share a few pictures.

Congratulations! Lindsay and Dan got married and we couldn't be happier for the two of them! Our trip down was short for Brett, but thanks to his encouragement, Cade and I got to stay for another week and go to Swiss Days! Loved every minute of it!

Out in the middle of the Palouse, there's a waterfall! We went with Grandma and Grandpa Udy (the picture of all of us was with their camera, but I promise they were there)! We ate a picnic, then walked to "the edge" for some pictures. It turned out to be a very nice day and we're glad to finally have some summer weather!

So for those of us who don't live in Utah, the holidays aren't "moved" if they fall on a Sunday, so we celebrated the 4th, on the 3rd! We had a neighborhood bike and stroller parade, games, a BBQ and a "cul-de-sac of fire" (in honor of Stadium of Fire)! Thanks to all those who have fought, or are still fighting for the freedoms of this great nation.

We've been saving for two years to take an anniversary trip to New York and celebrate 5 wonderful years together! As much as we missed Cade, it was nice not to worry about diaper bags and toys, and to be able to go out to eat without providing entertainment for everyone else in the restaurant! Here's a brief glimpse at a few of the things we did!

We had the chance to take a day trip with Brett to Utah! Needless to say, Grandma and Grandpa were thrilled! It was short, but sweet and we were so glad to see some of our family. Here's a little glimpse into our little 9 hour trip.

On our trip to Utah, we went to Wheeler Farm with Grandma and Grandpa Poll, and Aunt Lindsay! It was a little chilly and the wind was a little wild, but we had a good time!

This little piggy went to trough...then to water. (After climbing in the trough with all four feet, she then climbed into the blue trough full of water. Nothing like taking a bath and wettin' your whistle at the same time!)

We're still working on teaching Cade to read (and I guess Grandma didn't have her glasses)!

Brett's uncle was so kind and gave us this old swing set that his kids have outgrown! As you can see, it's a good thing that our back yard isn't any smaller! Cade is content in Mom or Dad's lap on the swing for now, but give it a year or two, and he'll be climbing all over it! Thanks to everyone who helped in the moving and reconstruction of it!

So this is Cade and his cousin Kent playing in our living room. Notice how they're oblivious to each other? It's quite hilarious! They play like this all the time, rarely noticing one another (unless Kent has something that Cade wants)! Our last trip to Utah was short, yet sweet. Uncle Jaque got married and it was so fun to see all the family. Here's a quick glimpse at what we did! We miss you all already and feel bad we didn't get to visit more of our friends and family. Love you!

We recently went to the Palouse Empire Fair, which was a first for both Cade and me! It was a fun change of pace, and the fair food was expensive, but tasty! Maybe next year Cade will want to stay for the rodeo, but this year he was pretty beat after a few hours. It was a fun intro to fall!
